Organizing for Collaboration

It’s on everyone’s lips, with collaboration closely following innovation.  We’ve come to recognize that command-and-control decision-making and siloed hierarchies are not the way forward.  We talk a good game about collaboration within the organization, but do we provide a supportive culture?

You cannot collaborate within a psychologically unsafe culture.  You cannot collaborate in a culture that does not allow for meeting or where communication is restrained.  You cannot collaborate in a culture that frowns on sharing.  You cannot collaborate in a culture that does not foment trust, where individuals are not trustworthy, and where individuals are not trusting.  You cannot collaborate in a culture that disincentivizes collaboration.  You cannot collaborate if you cannot cooperate.
